Fleur de la paix
Exposition Spéciale à Paris et symposium international sur la recherché en art de
Dunhuang et les realizations en design par l’Acadêmiedes arts et design de l’Université de Tsinghua,
Paris, 2024
A groundbreaking collaboration occurred between Prof. Li Yingjun from the Academy of Arts & Design at Tsinghua University and Prof. Annie Yu from the School of Fashion and Textiles at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU SFT). Together, they worked on an innovative garment design project that seamlessly integrated advanced techniques such as digital knitting, pleating, and 3D printing. Drawing inspiration from the rich visual heritage and intricate motifs of Dunhuang art, the team sought to reinterpret traditional aesthetics through contemporary technology and craftsmanship. The resulting garment not only showcased the possibilities of merging ancient cultural elements with cutting-edge design methods but also highlighted the creative synergy between the two esteemed institutions. This remarkable piece was selected for exhibition in Paris in October 2024, where it attracted significant attention from the international fashion and art communities, further establishing the collaborators’ reputations as pioneers in the field of interdisciplinary design.
This collaboration elegantly weaves together the symbolic beauty of "Fleur de la Paix"—the flower of peace—with the timeless artistry of Dunhuang, renowned for its ancient murals and intricate motifs. Each garment is a harmonious blend of East and West, drawing on the delicate forms and serene colors of the fleur de la paix while echoing the spiritual and cultural richness found in Dunhuang’s historic art.
Utilizing advanced 3D technology, the collection pushes the boundaries of textile innovation. Digital modeling and 3D printing techniques are employed to create sculptural embellishments, intricate pleating, and seamless knit structures that evoke the ethereal qualities of both the flower and Dunhuang’s visual language. The result is a series of pieces that are not only visually striking but also technically sophisticated, merging tradition with modernity.
Through this collection, the designers invite viewers to experience a dialogue between peace and heritage, where ancient inspiration meets futuristic craftsmanship. Each piece stands as a testament to the transformative power of technology in fashion, celebrating cultural legacy while envisioning new possibilities for artistic expression.
